Q. How do I audition for Willy Wonka Kids?
A. This year, we are holding "Casting Opportunities" instead of traditional auditions. All students who are interested in participating in Willy Wonka Kids in ANY capacity are invited to come on Thursday, September 5th and/or Friday, September 6th from 3:35-4:30 to play theatre games and sing a little as a group with Miss O'Connor and Mr. Constantine. Think of it more like a fun drama class. There is no pressure to "try-out" for a certain role or sing a solo. Students will be cast in a role that is best suited for them based on observations made by the instructors. Please let us know if your child cannot attend either one of these casting opportunities.
Q. I want to be in the cast. Do I have to have a speaking part?
A. There are two opportunities for you to be a cast member and not have any lines. You could be a "Candy Kid" (There's a little bit of singing) or a squirrel.
Q. When will I know if I got a part in the cast?
A. Casting will be announced by email on Friday, September 6th @ 7:00 pm.
Q. What should I do if I've been given a part in the cast?
A. You and a family member must register on the PTA website by Tuesday, September 10th.
Q. What if I don't want the role to which I've been cast?
A. There is no obligation to accept the role that was chosen for you, but you must email Miss O'Connor immediately. There is always an opportunity for you to be a Candy Kid or a squirrel if you turn down the part.
Q. How much does it cost to be a part of Willy Wonka Kids?
100A. New low cost! All cast members will be asked to pay a fee of $100.00 at the time of registration. Stage Crew may participate for free!
Q. How is the registration fee used?
A. The registration fee is used to purchase an original Willy Wonka Kids t-shirt for all cast and crew, snacks for every rehearsal, and a cast party after the last performance.
Q. What if I cannot afford to pay the registration fee?
A. Please send a private email to Miss O'Connor.
A. When does registration open?
A. You may register on the ISD PTA website as soon as casting has been released (Friday, September 6th @ 7:00 pm.)
Q. When does registration close?
A. Registration Closes on Tuesday, September 10th @ 3:35 pm.
Q. Do I have to register if I want to do Stage Crew?
A. Yes. Even though there is no fee required, you must still register on the ISD PTA Website by Tuesday, September 10th @ 3:35 pm.
Q. I have football practice. Can I come to just some of the rehearsals?
A. You can still be a part of Willy Wonka Kids, but if you cannot commit to attending each and every rehearsal, you may want to sign up for Stage Crew instead of being in the cast.
Q. What does the stage crew do?
A. There are a lot of jobs a member of the "Crew" could do:
- Create sets and props
- Help with costumes or makeup
- Use your tech knowledge to work with Mr. Harris on sound and lighting
- Move set pieces and props during the production
Q. Can I be an Oompa Loompa?
A. The Oompa Loompa Chorus will be made up of mostly fourth graders. We may cast some fifth graders as Oompa Loompa Managers.
Q. What's an Oompa Loompa Manager?
A. An Oompa Loompa Manager would be the ones responsible to for removing Augustus, Violet, Veruca, and Mike from Willy Wonka's Candy Factory when they get in trouble.
Q. What if I get sick and can't be in the show on performance day?
A. We would all be very sad! Usually, there is a cast member who will have learned other character parts and can fill in with a little help from the production team.
Q. Who can I contact if my question isn't on this page?
A. You can stop in and see Miss O'Connor in U6 or email her at [email protected].
